I really dislike when people try to argue that there shouldn’t be a black history month. I understand that there may be reasons why, but those reasons can come from black people, not white people. White people do not have a right to say something like “we should stop celebrating black history month, because what about the other 11 months of the year.”
Well my dear, that is not up to you to decide. YOU were raised in a white suburban family who never had the burden of experiencing racism, or hearing about your ancestors being slaves. Yes, racism has went down a lot since the 1960’s, but it is still prevalent in today’s society. People try so hard to allow everyone into their culture, but they still do not fully understand black people and their history.
They have went through so much, and it has taken them this long to be accepted into society. So why not allow them to have a little recognition once a month, to be educated and understanding about their history.
