Honestly, yes we all know this is true. How you can have an advertisement with a girl in clothes, and people won’t give it a second thought. But put that girl in a bikini and on the beach, and everyone will watch it over, and over, and over again.
But when does this sex appeal become too much? Last night I watched the music video for ‘Anaconda’ by Nicki Minaj, and I am seriously speechless. I honestly don’t know how to put into words what I witnessed.
Basically, she is half naked (as usual) with her ass out (as usual) singing about… asses.. and other stuff. But the video is so sexual and provocative and I just don’t know how someone can dance around like that and sing while still having respect for themselves and their body. I personally don’t know Nicki or people that do the same thing, but I personally could never act that way.
I was reading the comments and someone said “ I doubt Rosa Parks sat at the front of the bus for black women to be represented as this”.
Others said things like, it’s her music, she can do what she wants to see it. It doesn’t define her as a person. Um, well actually it did. It shows what kind of person you are if you parade around half naked singing about sex. If you write and sing about that stuff, it kind of shows what kind of person you are.
I feel like the whole music industry has gone to shits. What happened to the stuff from the 60’s and 70’s; the good stuff? Now a days the only things people sing about are love, break up, sex… that’s pretty much it. It’s rare to find a song about anything else.
It’s sad because people have so much potential, yet they waste their talents trying to show themselves off only to make money.
Not to mention she is ‘skinny shaming’ in her video. She talks about her ‘fat ass’ and ‘f*ck the skinny bitches’. Well, okay there.
You can watch her video here……if you want.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDZX4ooRsWs
I also heard this song on the radio the other day called “All about that Bass” and good for you girl for singing about your size and telling every girl she is perfect no matter what – until she gets to the part of the song where she body shames skinny girls and makes them feel bad about being smaller. “Tell those skinny bitches that”
